Ever since I can remember I’ve been using Mozilla Firefox as my primary browser, even way back when I was on a PC (like 2 years ago haha), and have stuck with it since. But, last night I got to wondering, what else is out there? As you know from a previous post I downloaded BonEcho, a version of Firefox optimiazed for Intel Macs, and so far have been liking it. But, I still wondered what the internet has to offer. So, as I went searching through the internets I came across talk of a browser called Camino, and it seemed to be well known, the other browser I came across was Shiira, one that I have personally never heard of before. So, after a couple of minutes of downloading I had two new browsers to try out.
Camino’s slogan is “Mozilla Power, Mac Style” which you will quickly see when you open it up. It’s not too different from Firefox, but provides just a little more in terms of style, icons, speed, and just overall looks. If you’re looking for something like Firefox but just a little bit more, than Camino is for you.
Now this browser is really neat. Shiira is also known as the Shiira Project and it’s goal was to create a browser like Safari but, it quickly became a lot more than what Safari (and Mozilla) offers. What I though was really cool when I first opened it up was how the “tabs” are set up. Down at the bottom of the browser there’s a little frame where you can see a preview of each different tab you have open. It’s very easy to see and click which tab you want to open and the bottom frame can easily be hidden to free up more room.
The next thing I liked was the “Shelf.” The Shelf handles all of your bookmarks, browsing history, downloads, and some other things, all in one place. It saves from going to each little different menu option for it’s own thing (organizing bookmarks, history, etc.) The other awesome thing with the Shelf is that oyu can keep it in a tab like it’s own web page, so that makes it even easier to access!
I’m sure there’s much more that these browsers offer that I haven’t found yet, being as I’ve barely used them long enoght to find out haaha. So, it’s best to go and check them out for yourself
. Happy downloading!
