As you can tell by the bold statement I’m not happy with the new Facebook look at all. For those that use Facebook you woke up this morning to see the “all new” updated look that people had been talking about lately.

I’m saying this now, I hate it. Actually the first thing I said after seeing it was, “WTF is this?”

The first thing I would like to talk about is the alignment. The most simple and basic concept of all web design. Alignment keeps things neat and clean, and makes the users happy. Poor alignment, or non at all, makes the user cry.

In the picture below I have drawn lines and numbered each so you can see what I’m talking about.

1.) The top of the Facebook logo aligns with the bottom of the nav text. Now, although it is aligned I think it would better for the bottom of Facebook to align with the bottom of the nav text.

2.) Again with the Facebook logo, the bottom of it aligns with nothing. It just seems to be placed there for the fun of it.

3.) The light blue bar below the logo doesn’t seem to line up with anything either, this is also not good. I would like to see is line up with the top of the main white content box.

4.) The login form is in it’s own gray box, yet it doesn’t come down to the bottom of the main content box. I would like to see the gray box line up with the white content box at both the bottom and top.

5.) The top nav doesn’t seem to line up vertically with the bottom nav at all. I’m sure they didn’t worry about this since the two are s far apart but, if you didn’t catch it at first I’m sure your subconscious would pick it up and make you think, “Ew” but you don’t know why.

6.) The edge of the main white content box is off further to the right than the rest of the stuff. This causes everything to be put out of line and is not appealing to me at all.

So there you have it, my faults with the new Facebook and why it suck. I know what they were trying to do…have the main content box seem to “pop” out of the page like it’s over top of everything for a cool, yet simple look. Sorry Facebook you failed to impress me. What would I have done then you ask? Glad you did! Working with what they gave me this is how I would’ve done it. Notice everything is nice and aligned, pure sexyness!
